5

Noah turns 5 months old today and in honor of his “birthday” I thought I would celebrate the number 5. Unfortunately the little guy is sick right now with a cold and cough, but he’s a trooper and hasn’t complained too much at all.

So... 5…seems like such a small number, yet so much has happened in 5 months. Here are 5 of my favorite pictures from the last months.

And here are 5 things I love about Noah:
1. I love to hear the sweet little sound of just him breathing. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I’ll turn up the monitor really loud and just listen to him breathing. Partly because it comforts me to hear that he’s ok, and partly because it’s just the sweetest sound ever. It makes me want to go scoop him up and love on him, but that of course would be silly because I’ve learned not to ever wake a sleeping baby.
2. I love his laugh. It’s the cutest mixture between a giggle and a cough. He’s just recently gotten to where he will really get going when we make funny sounds or faces. I haven’t gotten it on video yet, but I really need to.
3. I love how when I go to get him out of his crib in the mornings, he always has the biggest smile for me. It doesn’t matter if I’m running super late in the morning, or if I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and am really cranky, when I go to get him up, that big toothless grin absolutely makes my day.
4. I love his huge feet and hands. I swear he has the hands of a 2 year old and his feet are so big that they totally stretch the seams of his footed pajamas and he never got to wear most of his newborn size socks and shoes. But I love them just the same. I’m sure it’s an indicator of how big he’ll be one day, and when he turns 18 years old and towers over me, I’ll love them then too.
5. I love how he grunts when he’s going to the bathroom. It must be a boy thing because my neighbor said that none of her girls did that. And I know he’d kill me if he knew I was writing this. But I think it’s the funniest thing. There’s usually no mistaking when he’s “doing his business”. I think he gets a kick out of it too because sometimes he’ll smile really big when he’s done.

I made sure to give him 5 kisses this morning before I left, and 5 kisses when I got home from work…..wait, who am I kidding...I kissed him way more than 5 times. But anyways, we love you Noah! Happy 5 months!

First date

Yesterday, Noah had his first date with his friend Drew. Back when we found out that we were having a boy, and that our friends were having a little girl, we decided that they would one day be boyfriend and girlfriend. This was their first time to get together when they were actually awake and old enough to really check each other out, and I think they really hit it off. It was really just your typical first date. It started with a little awkward shyness, then came a little squealing and crying, followed by some playing in the jumperoo, then a little nap and some more crying at the end. What? You never had a date like that? Once they warmed up to each other, they were both talking and trying to hold hands. Very cute.

The date must have gone pretty well, because when it was time for Drew to go home, she got very upset. Noah tried to comfort her, but it really didn't seem to help much. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure if she was upset about going home, or because she thought Noah was trying to give her a kiss. But either way, I think there will probably be a second date in their future.

In other Morrison household news, we finally got a working microwave....yay!! Ours has been broken for a few weeks. And a microwave is one of those things that you never realize how important it is until you don't have it. So we got a new one and Jeff thought he would take a stab at installing it himself....it's one of the ones that's mounted under the cabinet. He's never really been what I would call the "handy" type around the house (usually if something breaks, we wait until my dad can come up and fix it), but I have to say he did a great job! It was pretty funny to watch however, because everything kept going wrong...first, the microwave wouldn't fit, then he had to chisel away some of the tile on the backsplash, redo the mounting bracket, etc. But I don't think he thought it was very funny, nor did he find it funny that I was taking pictures of him while he was working on it. But as you can guess, I didn't really care! Thanks again for fixing the microwave!

And lastly, little man was throwing quite the little tantrum the other night. You can totally tell when he's really upset for a reason (hungry, sleepy, etc.) and when he's just crying to be pitiful and get some attention. And this was one of those times. Check out this face.

And then I just had to post this picture because I think he looks so much like Jeff in it...is it just me? I have a hard time deciding who he looks like most of the time, but for some reason, I think he's all Jeff in this pic.

And lastly, after his little tantrum, Noah realized that Santa had probably been watching so he decided he might need to talk to him just to clear up any confusion. And since it's getting a little late to be mailing letters to the North Pole, and he can't write very well yet, he decided to let his shirt do the talking and send a little message to him via blog. Hope you see this Santa!

Hallelujah!

He did it! He slept all the way through the night, didn't wake up once, not even for a minute and he did it in his crib! Noah's been a good sleeper since he was about 2 months old...he slept through the night only waking once, usually around 2 or 3 in the morning to eat, and then back to sleep. So by no means could I complain about that. But at our last dr. appt. I asked him about it and he said that he's probably just gotten used to waking up at the same time every night, and didn't actually need to eat. So he told us the best way to go about getting him to sleep through the night, but he said we should try putting him in his room to do it. Up until now he has been sleeping in the Pack and Play in our room, but the doc said it would be much easier for us and more effective if we tried it when he was in his own room. 2 nights ago, I put him in his crib, and just like clockwork, he was awake around 2:00. I went in and gave him his pacifier and comforted him, not picking him up, and continued that for about an hour and a half. He wasn't crying the whole time, which made it easier. But he would start to fall asleep and then wake himself up by throwing his arms up in the air. So finally I put him in the swing and let him sleep there for the rest of the night (it's probably not the best thing to do, but he sleeps so well in it and it got him back to sleep without feeding him). Then last night, we put him down around 8:00 in his crib, and he slept until we woke him up this morning. I have to say, I didn't get nearly that much sleep because I kept waking up just waiting for him to start crying on the monitor. So hopefully, if he continues to do it, I'll get used to sleeping through the night too! Yay for Noah!!

O, Christmas tree

One of my favorite things about the Christmas season is decorating the tree. Growing up, we always had a fake tree but ever since Jeff and I have been married, we have always gotten a real tree each year and I love it....going to pick it out, the smell of it when we bring it in the house, the way pine needles completely cover our living room floor after dragging it in....well, not that part so much, but you get the idea. Normally, we go and pick out a tree as soon as we get back from Thanksgiving and I decorate the tree and the house all that night. Things aren't quite so easy with a four month old though. It seems like every time I'd try to start decorating, I'd get sidetracked with something else, so it took me almost a week to finally get the tree done. But it's done! Noah likes to look at the lights on the tree, but I can't let him get too close to it because he likes to grab anything he can get his hands on, and I'm sure he'd like to destroy some of the ornaments. This weekend he also got to go meet Santa for the first time and take a picture with him. I think he really wanted to pull on Santa's beard, but I explained to him before we left that this was the guy who would be bringing him presents if he was good, so I think that made him think twice about it. I think Christmas is going to be Noah's favorite holiday, just like it is ours.

Yum yum...

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we decided to start Noah on cereal. We had asked the doctor about it at his last appointment, and he said we could if we thought he needed it. Well, that night he started waking up several times during the night and continued that for the next week. And of course, me being convinced that anytime he does something out of the ordinary it means there's something wrong, thought that meant he was hungry and that we needed to start him on some foods. So we did. I'm not sure if that was the reason or not, but he has started sleeping better again and he seems to love the cereal....maybe I was actually onto something. The first few bites were met with a slightly confused look and lots of sticking his tongue out. Then he got the hang of it and would kick excitedly between each bite as if to say, "More, more, more!!!" I guess if I ate the same thing every day for 4 months, I'd be ready for a little variety too. And of course, by the end of it, he thought he was a pro and he could just feed himself...grabbing the spoon from me and trying to stick it in his mouth, not wanting me to help. Mr. Independent....I wonder where he gets that from?

Don't you just love those bright blue eyes???

And here are just a few random pics from our Thanksgiving travels. This is Nanette and Papaw at their house.

Here's little man just scooting around on his little car at Grandma and Grandpa's house. He was already a wild man on this thing, so I fear the day 16 years from now that he might be driving an actual car....we won't think about that for now.

And I just couldn't resist this picture with his Elmer Fudd Razorback cap. All he needs is a little rifle and he'd totally be ready to go hunt for wabbits.

Finally, our exhausted guy on the way home.
